In this fifth guided meditation, part of The Inner Temple fo the Heart Series, we’ll be focusing on activating the virtue of understanding.
To ‘understand‘ literally means to ‘stand-under.’ When you understand another person, you are able to stand beneath them, so that you can see what is not apparent and visible to the eye.
Whereas ‘knowledge’ is a function of the rational mind, of information and facts, true ‘understanding‘ is a function of the heart because it requires you to see beyond the facts and grasp the bigger picture and deeper aspects of another person’s life.
You can know a lot about a person. You can know their name, their age, their religion and many other facts about their life. But to truly ‘understand’ them, you need to go beyond these facts. You need to discover what motivates and drives the decisions and actions they take in life. You need to literally, ‘stand under where they stand.’
Each time you pray for understanding, you’re essentially praying to be shown the bigger picture about a situation, a person or thing. This realization can be profoundly healing!
This is why compassion, which is your ability to feel another person’s pain, PLUS understanding, EQUALS forgiveness. When you’re able to not only see the world through another person’s eyes and feel what they feel, it becomes easier to let go of your anger, resentment, and blame.
To me, understanding is ultimately what Hellen Keller was referring to when she said, “The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched – they must be felt with the heart.”
I hope you enjoy this next installment of The Inner Temple of the Heart, and that it opens your heart to welcoming greater love, abundance, and joy in your life!
Love.

Though you write – talk about things that I read about before it is the ways you put the together that makes them go deeper and make me revisit, rethink and rereflect on the different topics you bring into the light and our attention.
Thank you for all your great work online as well as offline.

Another insight into the very essence of the word “understanding”. Never ever perceived it the way you perceive it.
Thank you for your guidance.
